Year 5 worked really hard together to produce these fabulous adverts for a competition. They thought carefully about a punchy advert to persuade people to recycle more and to market Veolia Environmental Services, a large recycling company in the UK. The winners get to record their advert for a real radio broadcast.

The Deep end of project animations in Y5
Although we had lots of fun, we also learnt how to animate, export, import, add music and sound effects as well as voice over and titles. Enjoy watching them!

Year 5 Christmas programming
Y5 have used tutorials in their independent computer time to learn how to program. They have created complex programming sequences like this loop sequence:
Year 5: please add a comment to help people use your Scratch applets - let them know if they need to use certain keys to activate actions.
Enjoy their success:

Dramatic commentaries from Year 5
In Year 5, we've been playing working on Endless Ocean on the Wii. We're currently running a carousel of activities. These children were working on their own to record commentaries of the dives they were watching other people do. Listen to their creativity and expression. Fabulous!

Superb speaking skills in Y5
We have been involved in different learning linked to Endless Ocean today. Here's Naomi's and Milla's commentary linked to the underwater scenes we were diving.
This is followed by a fact we picked up today. After feeling the weight of 1kg, we realised this was a sizeable fish!
And the grand finale is Adam who has made minutes of fabulous recordings about his underwater adventures (which did get a bit scary and gruesome!). This is a safe one to listen to :-) Listen out for his tremendous expression!

Paige in Y5's brilliant Blockbuster homework challenge
this is my design of a island the coloured bits are the different cities, although they look big they are tiny.
My island is on the coast of a unknown bit of the world. I chose this bit of the world because i thought that the only person who lived there could have some peace. The unknown place is on the edge of Barbados where dingo where transported from Australia to my island. Don’t tell anyone where it is sssssssssssshhhhhh.
Mrs Cole added: I'd sit on the tip of the grey peninsula... Where would you sit?

iPad Junior Jam in Y5
What a fun morning of music production on the iPads. We learnt about bars and rhythm and repeating sounds as part of our Junior Jam session.
Olympic posters - our thoughts
We enjoyed pretending we were the posters and analysing what we thought about the artists who created them. We used the iPod app Morfo and some of us used iMovie to piece snippets together.
Making a tree lie!
These photos link to the videos further down of the talking trees. Here's all the fun we had preparing our tree characters and stories.

Flame followers
We were very pleased so many children got to see the flame last weekend. Here's a few family shots from Y5 children who were able to go.
Outdoors + literacy + clay + QR Codes + iPods = FUN
This unusual (& perhaps a little scary!) combination of activities left us feeling like we'd had a great day of fun and learning.
Half of Y5 & half of Y6 joined together for the day.
We began by creating a tree character and then wrote a lie about something that had happened to it. This lie grew and grew until we had fabulous fictional stories. Once the drafts had begun, we went on QR Code Treasure Hunts which revealed new sentence openers which we were challenged to incorporate into our stories. We then recorded our stories using the Morfo app which enabled our trees to come to life.
We did well! Check out what we've achieved!

Going for Gold animation
Yesterday, James Betts offered to return to Glenaire to help us with another iPod animation session using I Can Animate for a new Y5/6 carousel group. We weren't going to say no and what a fabulous afternoon of great Olympic and Paralympic values in operation. Just have a look at the results...

Y5s reflecting on what they've learnt today.
Y5 refreshed their memories on square numbers today and then investigated whether any whole number can be made from no more than 4 square numbers. Everyone showed amazing resilience, worked as a great team and cracked on with the task at hand. Spot Joshua's discovery too which he noticed during the lesson. Mrs Bavinton may well still be working on this at home :-)

WOW! Our Y5 animation entry
CaitlinM, Katy and some of their friends have worked very hard indeed in their own times (and on their own) to produce this magnificent animation which we are entering into The Bradford Film & Animation Competition. Fingers crossed we make it to the finals!

Going for Gold Carousel
Our Y5/6 carousel launched today in great style.
A little while ago, Year 5 persuaded Mr Betts, the MD from Kudlian Software no less, to assist them with an afternoon of animation.
We had great fun with teams of children producing animations linked to Olympic events. The class used the Olympic & Paralympic values to work brillantly together.
What a fabulous afternoon we all had and a HUGE thank you to Mr Betts for joining us.
How many events can you spot?

Mmmmmmm.... Measuring in Maths!
Lots of requests this week for our refrigerator cake which we made as part of our work on measures.
So here's the recipe... Remember if you make some at home to bring some in for us too - it'll stop you feeling so sick :-)
Refrigerator Cake in 2 batches
Refrigerator cake is a famous favourite of school
fêtes and family occasions. It doesn’t really resemble a cake – this
stir-and-set concoction is more like a chewy, homemade chocolate bar. Rocky
Road is the American term for the same cake, and the classic recipe for Rocky
Road is given below.
2 lots of this mixture
Makes
Enough To Fill A 30x20cm Tin.
You Need:
- Cling
film
- 30x20cm
tin
- Large
plastic sandwich bag
- Rolling
pin
- 2tbsp
golden syrup
- 100g
plain chocolate
- 75g
milk chocolate
- 75g
unsalted butter
- 85g
plain, digestive biscuits
- 75g
raisins
- 75g
sultanas
Method
1.
Line
your tray with clingfilm and put it aside.
2. Weigh out the biscuits
3. Put them into a large plastic sandwich bag.
4. Squeeze the air out of the bag gently and seal
it.
5. Use a rolling pin carefully to crush the
biscuits. (This step can also be done in a food processor.)
6. Weigh out the raisins and sultanas and put
them aside ready.
7. Melt the chocolate, syrup and butter in a
pan over a low heat. (To save sticky spills, warm a metal spoon using warm
water before using it to measure out the golden syrup – the syrup will plop
cleanly off the warm spoon.)
8. When the mixture is smooth and molten, tip
in the biscuits and stir quickly.
9. Continuing to work quickly, tip in the
sultanas and raisins and stir thoroughly.
10. As soon as everything is evenly mixed, tip
it into the prepared pan and smooth it out with a spatula.
11. Now leave the tray in the fridge to cool:
once set, cut it into squares and enjoy!

Wow! Take a look at how many questions that is.
Can anyone add up how many the three have answered between them and how many they have got correct? Email Mrs Cole or post a comment for a reward.

Fabulous letter from Keane
Dear Keane
Thank you for your letter which I can tell you took time to write because you were very careful joining up.
The work you have done on PhotoStory sounds excellent and I'd love to see it. You must have been very disappointed when it didn't save properly.
Miss Thomis is now going to log your problem so our computer technicians can fix it for you.
Thank you for writing to let me know.
Looking forward to you video,
Mrs Cole
